Pastor Naim & Elvira Khoury
My name is Naim Khoury I was born and reared in the Old City of Jerusalem, my grandfather was a Greek priest and so were eleven of my uncles. I grew up in a traditional Greek Orthodox home, where kids are taught the original orthodox tradition.
In 1968, I attended a meeting at a Bible Believing church and that was the first time I heard about the plan of salvation presented to me according to the Bible. I became under the conviction of the Holy Spirit, because I had never heard the Gospel before so clear in my life. At the end of the service the invitation was given, I walked down the isle and asked Jesus to come into my heart. I was and still am glad for what Christ did for me that day. For, that day the presence of the Spirit gave me peace and happiness. I am glad not for what I have done but for what He has done for me on Calvary cross.
I knew it was not going to be easy once I got home, my family noticed and saw changes in my life they saw the happiness and the peace in me. Being the youngest out of ten brothers and sisters I prayed that God would give me the power and strength to share my faith with my family. I could not hold that happiness in for too long. I took that step of faith and shared my testimony with my whole family. At first my family didn’t accept me and tried to ignore the peace that they saw. It was not too long till the Lord touched their lives.
To God be the glory for the great things He has done, He is alive forever more. His promise that He will never leave us nor forsaken us is true, and He is watching over us till we meet again. (Galatians 2:20)
Rev. Khoury is pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bethlehem, a city nowadays governed by the Palestinian Authority. The First Baptist Church has been bombed by Muslims fourteen times. Rev. Khoury himself has been ambushed and shot three times. Still he keeps saying: “Israel is God’s people and His promises will be fulfilled.”
